FDA Issues Warning Letters to Six Food Establishments on Food Safety Matters

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) delivered warning mails early this year to six prominent food establishments based in five different states and one in Italy upon discovering several food safety-related violations during a series of unannounced inspections.

The FDA implements the food code in which strict guidelines for safe food storage, preparation, processing, and handling are distributed to all food service and manufacturing industries. For restaurant operators, the FDA tailored its food safety system known as the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point to emphasize the basic principles of food storage and preparation safety management.

These six establishments committed several major violations of FDA’s Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements. As such, the recipients of these warning letters concerning misbranding, thermal processing, and food sanitation were given 15 working days to specify the steps they’ll act upon in compliance to the notice.

After a thorough inspection, FDA inspectors cited Hahn’s Old Fashioned Cake Company Inc. in Farmingdale, New York, Biondillo’s Bakery LLC in Chicago, Illinois, River Hills Harvest (doing business as Elderberrylife) in Hartsburg, Missouri, Iowa Select Herbs LLC in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Pancrazio S.P.A. in Cava Dei Tirreni, Italy for each of their various major infractions in the food safety regulations and guidelines.
